The three talented and ultra-cool entertainers from the show Swing City will transport you to the era of swing music and big bands when they perform at the Carnival City Mardi Gras Theatre in Brakpan on Friday 6 September.
Individually Nathan Ro, Graeme Watkins and Loyiso Bala enjoy successful careers in the entertainment industry. Drawn together by their love of swing music, Frank Sinatra and Robbie Williams, they decided to join forces to start a swing band and the result is Swing City.
Nathan’s music career took off when he was runner-up in Project Fame and he subsequently formed well known band Lonehill Estate. The band went on to record three albums, garner a SAMA nomination, achieve three No 1 hits on 5fm and perform internationally in Los Angeles and Montreux. Isidingo fans will also need no introduction to Nathan, who has performed on the successful soap drama for two years.
By contrast, Graeme is a Theatre and Performance graduate from UCT who chose to follow a career in music, forming a swing trio entitled Its a Swing Thing. He was a runner up in Idols and then formed the successful band The Graeme Watkins Project which has since received two SAMA nominations so far.
Popular Loyiso Bala, the third Ace in the pack needs little or no introduction. Part of the family group The Bala Brothers, Loyiso has enjoyed an equally successful solo career, including the most played song of 2009, I Want You.
Swing City features the three vocalists backed by a live jazz band. This sexy combo delivers a celebration of all things jazz, swing and blues, but adding their own modern day twist.
Swing fans can expect to hear classics such as Mack the Knife, Mr Bojangles, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Come Fly With Me, Fever, For Once In My Life, Me and My Shadow and many more of your favourites.
The show starts at 20h00 and tickets are available from the door at R100 each.
