The Voice of Watershed

announces

ORDINARY BOY

Three City SA Tour

His wasn’t destined to be an ordinary story. Now comes the next chapter in the evolution of an extraordinary musician.

Craig Hinds announced today his three city “Ordinary Boy” Tour, which will see him performing in Port Elizabeth on 29 June at the Vodacom Ampitheatre, Johannesburg on 13 July at Room Five in Rivonia and at Moyo Kirstenbosch in Cape Town on 19 July. Tickets on sale now through Computicket for the shows in Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg and Webtickets for the performance in Cape Town.

Craig Hinds knows, perhaps better than anyone else in the country, how to craft a song that gets under the skin, seeps into your soul, and stays with you. Making unforgettable pop songs is something he’s been doing for 15 years. As songwriter and lead vocalist he’s turned out archetypal performances, making Watershed not only a legendary band, but the number one acoustic rock outfit in the country. He’s penned some of the most memorable pop songs and radio hits of the last decade and a half.

Four great albums and more than a decade as the country’s number one pop-rock outfit has brought tremendous fulfillment, but as Craig says A solo project is a natural progression for a singer-songwriter, and Craig felt ready for “a bit of ‘me’ time.” The other members of Watershed each have their side projects and alternative outlets, and whilst Craig has written songs for other artists, he’s been keen to do something more deeply personal.

The album, which is available in all music stores nationally is tipped to be the most exciting pop album to come out of South Africa this year.

CELLAR DWELLERS

Experience an evening of food and wine at HQ’s Cellar Dwellers

HQ-Wine-Evening

HQ-Wine-Evening

Join Ernst Gouws & Co. at Headquarters (HQ) on Saturday, 29 June 2013 for an evening devoted to sublime cuisine paired with superlative wines: Cellar Dwellers at HQ.

Come the date of the event, we’ll be in the grip of the winter season. Shake off the chill with an indulgent night at the iconic steakhouse and bar located in Cape Town’s historic Heritage Square. The interior is sophisticated and moody with exposed stone walls and leather seating; it’s the perfect atmosphere for drinking wine—and on the night expect to feel as if you’ve stumbled upon an urban wine cellar.

Stellenbosch wine estate, Ernst Gouws & Co will host the evening and lead a tasting through their range of wines, which includes a Merlot, Shiraz, and Pinot Noir as well as a selection of whites. The estate is family-owned and run; and it produces ‘premium wines in an environmentally sensitive and ethically responsible manner’. The wine-tasting will be partnered with a three-course meal for R250; expect HQ’s famous sirloin and thin-cut fries as the main feature.

The night will be fun, informative and intimate, but only two words really matter: red wine and steak!

INTERVIEW WITH

TUMI MORAKE

CARNIVAL CITY

CARNIVAL CITY

1. If you could be any cartoon character who would you be and why?

I would be Buttercup, one of the Powerpuff girls. because then I’d get to kick ass and look cute doing it. I’d get to fight funny villains like Mojo Jojo (yes, I still watch cartoons)

2. Where do you get your inspiration from?

Life and the people around me. Also from the pressure of people wanting to hear more of what I’m thinking, when I’m really not thinking anything at all.

3. What made you decide to become a stand up comedian?

I always did well in comical roles and after being nagged to try stand up comedy I actually fell in love with the craft. A lot of actors seem to think if you can perform a monologue you can do stand up, but it is a craft that goes much deeper than that.

4. Who is your favourite comedian and why?

Currently I have two: David Kau and John Vlismas because I always end up sliding off the chair when I’m watching them and they both have big hearts.

5. Where in the world would you like to perform and why?

I would love to perform in the US to see how universal my stuff really is. And also because I hope Ben Stiller might be in the audience and go “I should work with that girl!”

6. What’s your biggest fear when on stage?

Dying.

7. What’s your favourite joke?

My gag about Afrikaner men and their short shorts. Because it cracked me up so much when I came up with it, and also when I first did it on stage, I can’t believe how obvious a gag it is.

8. Being a comedian, are you always funny and joke around or is it only when on stage?

Only when I am on stage. I laugh more than everyone off stage, I love it.

9. Where do you get your material from?

Everywhere – This is like what inspires me really. if it matters to me, there will always be something funny about it in my view.

10. What can your fans expect from Tumi Morake later this year?

My fans can expect more of the usual “Oh No She Didn’t” opinions, and more of me on the telly. And I expect them to vote for me in the Audience Choice category of the Comics Choice Awards (hahaha)
