No stranger to headlining festivals all around the world, this eagerly anticipated announcement comes mere weeks after releasing the highly acclaimed International acts, Rudimental and Crystal Fighters both from the UK. Once again, setting the bar for this year’s festival even higher and taking the South African festival scene to the next level.

ABOUT THE LOCAL LINE-UP

CrashCarBurn is an indie punk pop foursome has brought us some takkie-squeaking thumpers like The Light, Serenade, Twisted and more recently Keep Walking with Kwesta.

iFani will certainly bring a comical musicality to the local line-up. The Eastern Cape native is known for his tongue-in-cheek lyrics and dance moves. He doesn’t take himself all too seriously and is keen to take on Jason Derulo in an on-stage dance-off!

No stranger to the South African indie-pop/rock scene, the Graeme Watkins Project is the third outfit to be announced. Graeme has proven that being a TV reality show talent extends beyond that stage. Now, on their second album, tracks like Music Affair, Blood Shot Eyes and Fly Away have solidified their stamp in the music industry.

Kwesta snatched up the fouth spot on the line-up. Kwesta, aka Mr Kool, burst onto the music scene with the track Stomp followed by the crossover track Flava. He is stoked to be part of the line-up with rockers CrashCarBurn, with whom he’s recently collaborated on the track Keep Walking.

Greg Carlin and the members of Zebra and Giraffe are the fifth act to be added to the I Heart Joburg Festival stage. Z&G made a huge splash in 2008 with the release of their debut album and dominated at the 2009 SA Music Awards.

The Arrows claimed the final spot on the line-up. The Arrows burst on their scene with their hit song love sick and completely took over airwaves with their latest smash hit Spin my world around with Dj Kent.

FOR THREE CAPE CONCERTS

Legendary violinist, Pinchas Zukerman, accompanied by his wife, pre-eminent South African born Canadian cellist Amanda Forsyth, will give three Cape orchestral concerts in Stellenbosch on Tuesday, 19 August and Saturday, 23 August and at the Cape Town City Hall on Friday, 22 August 2014.

Touring South Africa courtesy of local promoter, Charl van Heyningen of Charl van Heyningen Enterprises, the Endler Concert Series features performances by one of the world’s most accomplished violinists, Pinchas Zukerman. Born in Tel Aviv in 1948, Pinchas Zukerman settled in America in 1962 where he studied at The Juilliard School with Ivan Galamian. He has been awarded the Medal of Arts, the Isaac Stern Award for Artistic Excellence and was appointed as the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative’s first instrumentalist mentor in the music discipline. Pinchas Zukerman’s extensive discography contains over 100 titles, and has earned him 21 GRAMMY Award nominations and two awards.

Mr Zukerman’s international acclaim of several decades also extends to the conductor’s podium and audiences in the Western Cape have a choice of two programmes in which to experience Zuckerman as both a violinist and as conductor.

On 19 August, Zukerman and Forsyth will present a programme of the Vivaldi double concerto, Boccherini cello concerto and Mozart violin concerto no 5 in A major K219 with the SAMA winning Stellenbosch University Camerata that accompanied Joshua Bell to critical acclaim in 2012. This concert will take place at Stellenbosch University’s Endler Hall at 8pm.

Commencing at 8pm on 22 and 23 August the duo will perform Malcolm Forsyth’s Elektra Rising for cello and orchestra as well as Bruch’s famous violin concerto with the University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra in the Cape Town City Hall and the Endler Hall in Stellenbosch respectively. Whilst Mr Zukerman will conduct Elektra Rising, he will also appear as soloist in the Bruch under the baton of resident music director, Corvin Matei.

Dr Malcolm Forsyth (1936 – 2011) was born in Pietermaritzburg and as a citizen of Canada was named Canadian Composer of the year (1989) whilst in 2003, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada. Elektra Rising is a complex and beautiful work that exploits the full range of the solo cello. These performances by Forsyth’s daughter and son-in-law represent a homecoming of sorts for this internationally acclaimed composer. Ms Forsyth has performed and recorded her father’s compositions throughout her career, winning a Juno Award in 1997 for her recording of his cello concerto Elektra Rising. The effusive critical acclaim for cellist Amanda Forsyth’s playing and technique is as varied as the range she displays as an internationally in-demand soloist, chamber musician and principal cello of Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra. Critics have praised her vibrant, assertive and energetic sound while also hailing her as a warm, lyrical, articulate and gracious musician. In all roles, she is noted as a performer of distinction and dedication with impeccable technique and command.

Pinchas Zukerman has remained a phenomenon in the world of music for over four decades. His musical genius, prodigious technique and unwavering artistic standards are a marvel to audiences and critics. Devoted to the next generation of musicians, he has inspired younger artists with his magnetism and passion. His enthusiasm for teaching has resulted in innovative programs in London, New York, China, Israel and Ottawa. The name Pinchas Zukerman is equally respected as violinist, violist, conductor, pedagogue and chamber musician. Cirque Éloize’s iD is directed by Jeannot Painchaud. The set design, illustrations and video projections are created by Robert Massicotte in collaboration with Alexis Laurence. The music is composed by Jean-Phi Goncalves and Alex McMahon, while the lighting is by Nicolas Descoteaux. Krzysztof Soroczynski acted as show acrobatic designer and head-trainer. iD also includes an artistic contribution from Mourad Merzouki.
