EFC AFRICA 23 - DK EXPRESSIONS

EFC AFRICA 23 - DK EXPRESSIONS

3 WEEKS TO EFC AFRICA 23

An epic fight card awaits

fans on September 12

22 August -3 WEEKS TO EFC AFRICA 23
22 August -3 WEEKS TO EFC AFRICA 23
Johannesburg, South Africa – The entire EFC AFRICA 23 fight card has been finalised, and promises incredible MMA action from tail to top.

Apart from the two title fights scheduled, where Andrew van Zyl defends his heavyweight crown for the first time against kickboxing colossus Sors ‘Guru’ Grobbelaar, and Michiel Opperman his welterweight title against former British and Commonwealth Muay Thai champion Dino ‘The Lion’ Bagattin, 11 other scintillating bouts play out on the night.

Fan favorite Boyd Allen finally gets his three rounds against Durban bad boy Wesley Hawkey. Allen has been asking for a tougher opponent and Hawkey offers just that. This bout has been postponed twice, both athletes are rearing to have a go at each other, and has massive fight of the night potential - if not fight of the year.

Martin ‘The Punisher’ Van Staden goes head to head with Nigerian born, Ireland based Henry ‘Herculeez’ Fadipe in a matchup that has already erupted on social media. Postponed from EFC AFRICA 22 due to Fadipe not receiving his VISA in time, Van Staden has accused him of ‘hiding’ and incompetence, while Fadipe has responded that all he wants now is the moment where he stands over Van Staden’s unconscious form.

Wilhelm ‘Tiny’ Strauss and Congolese black belt Judoka Vandam Mbuyi complete the main card with a heavyweight clash certain to crunch. Strauss is fresh from an epic, three round fight of the night war at EFC AFRICA 21 and will want a repeat performance, Vandam is a veteran of that same event. There he out boxed Egyptian Mohamed Karim over three rounds and afterward stated that all he wants is more.
EFC 23 POSTER 2
The evening’s prelim card, only available for viewing live at the venue, in full HD at selected Nu Metro cinemas throughout South Africa and via live streaming on efcafrica.tv, seethes with the best African talent.

Cheboub and Akleker face off in a highly skilled encounter. Both are known for unorthodox and specialized technique, both are seeing this as the ultimate opportunity to truly test their skills against an opponent as dedicated to the craft of MMA as the other.

Johan van Staden, renowned for his gritty striking and unbelievable toughness takes on the next prodigy to appear out of Cape Town, Sibusiso Mdoku. This man put on a near fight of the night performance against Cheboub last time around, this time he will stop at nothing for the win.

Roelof Scheepers, the monster that destroyed in his debut at EFC AFRICA 22 with a first round annihilation of Egyptian wrestler Koko Hammer, returns for an encounter at a whole new level with Brendon Groenewald. Groenewald submitted heavyweight title challenger Sors Grobbelaar at EFC AFRICA 16, offering a wealth of dangerous experience to challenge the newcomer.

Francois Groenewald and Craig Ninow, both massive talents determined to avenge recent losses, do battle at featherweight and K1 world champion Dricus du Plessis returns for what he terms ‘the chance to lay on a real beating’ against massively rated Takedown Academy debutant Bruno Mukhulu.

In addition both Botha brothers - identical twins and All Africa wrestling champions - go to war at feather and bantamweight with Peter Nyide and Baldwin Mdlalose respectively. Mdlalose is one of only two entering the Hexagon for the first time. Nelson Feiteria is the other, an athlete already trailing a huge reputation, who goes up against Nigerian boxing champion Kanyeba Anicet.

BONNIE TYLER LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA

Bonnie Tyler to rock Gauteng this August and Cape Town
and Bloemfontein  in  September 2013!!

Bonnie4
Bonnie4
Bonnie Tyler fans can expect a Total Eclipse of the Heart when the electrifying Welsh songbird performs at Emperors Palace on the 29th and 30th August 2013 at 20:00, 1st September 2013 at 18:00 and at the Cape Town Convention Center on 6th and 7th September 2013 at 20:00
Bonnie Tyler, the husky-voiced pop-rock diva behind hits such as Lost in FranceIt’s a Heartache and Holding out for a Hero last performed in the country  20 years ago. Having released a succession of irresistible classic songs in the 1970s and 1980s, she continues to occupy a special place in the hearts of many South Africans.
Tickets for these  concerts are   available at Computicket .
Bonnie Tyler was born Gaynor Hopkins in South Wales, and grew up surrounded by a large family. She was exposed to Motown music at an early age, and was particularly struck by the raw vocal power of two singers who would later have a huge influence on her singing style, Janis Joplin and Tina Turner.
She entered a talent contest at the age of 17 (coming second to a professional singer and winning the princely sum of £1) and went on to join the group Bobby Wayne and the Dixies for two years before forming her own band, Imagination, becoming a regular performer on the Welsh pub and club circuit.
“I decided I would change my name for the stage,” she says. “I put together a list of surnames and Christian names from a newspaper. I thought Bonnie Tyler sounded better than Hopkins. Now I like Gaynor and wish that I hadn’t changed my name.”
After a few years she was spotted signed to a record deal, but it was only after she had surgery to remove throat nodules in 1976 that her voice developed its trademark huskiness, earning her the moniker “the female Rod Stewart”. Her breakthrough hit in the UK and Europe, Lost in France, was followed by the mega-success of It’s a Heartache, which climbed into the top five in the USA as well.

It was  in the early 1980s, when Tyler seized back control of her career, that she made a fateful choice that would propel her to superstardom: partnering with Bat Out of Hell producer and songwriter Jim Steinman. Steinman instantly recognised the value of Tyler’s raw, passionate, powerful vocal style, and harnessed it to perfection on the album Faster Than the Speed of Light.
It would prove to be creative alchemy: within four weeks of the release of Total Eclipse of the Heart, the epic single had knocked Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean off the top of the UK charts.
It went on to sell over five million records and earned Tyler two Grammy nominations. The album shot straight into the UK album charts at number one, making Tyler the first female artist ever to achieve this feat, and went on to achieve platinum status in several countries, including South Africa.
Subsequent albums yielded standout songs such as the duets with Shakin’ Stevens (A Rockin’ Good Way) and Todd Rundgren (Loving You’s a Dirty Job, But Somebody’s Got to Do It). She has continued to enjoy success, particularly in Europe, where she has embarked on successful collaborations and duets, exploring other genres such as soft-pop and folk and making regular television appearances on charity drives and reality shows.
Tyler has been working on a new album, titled Rocks and Honey, which is enjoying chart success in Britain and Europe Featuring this year’s Eurovision hit song “Believe in me”
Don’t miss the opportunity to experience one of the most  legendary and powerful voices in pop-rock music .
Book your seats at Computicket but don’t delay – they’re likely to be snapped up Faster Than the Speed of Light!

Kraken Black Spiced Rum is proud to announce that both 'Ballistic Blues' and 'Cortina Whiplash' have been crowned Rolling Stone Rockstarter Winners for 2013.

During the Final Round at Mercury Live the judges were equally impressed with both bands and they subsequently decided that the award must be shared.

The competition saw a total of 56 entries, which were finally whittled down to the two bands that stood out at their respective gigs in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

"Rockstarter? Well, South Africa has a bucket load of real bands, making real music. There were more than 50 bands that rocked out in the competition. Ultimately the judges couldn't separate young blues rock prodigies Ballistic Blues and feminist punk rockers Cortina Whiplash in the final. Here's to both bands kicking out the jams in the coming years!" said Rolling Stone South Africa’s Editor, Myles Keylock.

About the Jonathan Butler Foundation

After his involvement with a number of independent initiatives, Jonathan Butler has launched a foundation that will cement his musical and personal legend in South Africa. The main aim of the Jonathan Butler Foundation (JBF) is to be a self-funded organisation providing positive intervention to promote access to music and arts education for children. Underlying this, the JBF focuses on helping to prevent kids falling into a life of substance abuse. It will do so through the use of a series of digitally mastered interactive presentations and programmes that it will be run through schools and community centres. The first of these programmes will take place in Eldorado Park in Gauteng in partnership with the Gauteng Provincial government.

The Foundation’s approach to substance abuse is based on its slogan: “Purpose kills Addiction – Live your dream!” The foundation uses a strengths-based approach in order to maximize the potential of young people.
The JBF also provides bursaries and scholarships to partner education institutions for those stellar students on the programme who demonstrate exceptional talent and a willingness to succeed while upholding the ideals and philosophy of the JBF.
The JBF will officially launch on 24 September 2013, SA Heritage Day, as it is Jonathan’s desire to create a new heritage for South Africa’s youth – one that is born out of music and a heritage they can claim as their own.
As a result of Jonathan Butler’s involvement with the Tshwane School of Music, of which he is Patron, the JB Foundation was formed. One of the Tshwane School of Music successes is the group, Freeborn, whose band members are under 13 years. The band has already performed at previous Jonathan Butler concerts and at Freedom Day celebrations.
