DK Expressions had one of the Cape Town “Time Travellers” by the name of Jacob Nthoiwa attend the GLOBAL SERIES event at CLUB Trinity Friday the 14th June.
But before the event on Friday Jacob was invited to the Press Meeting where he got a chance mingle with Dean Fuel, Simon Patterson and Protoculure the 3 DJ’s involved in the GLOBAL SERIES EVENT and spend some time chatting to them about their Music, Lives, and Future Endevours.
Simon Patterson drops his new stuff in Cape Town
On Friday, the trance legend Simon Patterson dropped some of his tunes including his latest compilation at Trinity night club in Cape Town. This number one trance DJ was brought to the SA shores by Global Series, the most anticipated event on the local electronic trance dance scene. This event was organised by Viva Vodka, SA’s first super premium vodka in partnership with DVM Events.
With his twelve years’ experience as a trance craftsman he brought the dance floor down with his progressive and uplifting trance tunes. The UK DJ played and satisfied the eager underground trance Capetonians with his two hours set. This is the second time Patterson rocked the locals with his hit records that have over the years retained absolute credibility in the global electronic dance scene.
Simon Patterson began his career in the music business over eleven years with an A&R position, which he held for several labels. He was signed by Seb Fontaine and also worked for Judge Jules and supported both of them with the music selection for their weekly radio shows on BBC Radio 1. He says starting at a low level of music helped him to learn more about music and be able to understand the business side of music.
According to Patterson, he brought John Askew on board as his manager. He says changing managers is definitely the best decision he made. Bringing a new manager on board, he says has been a big highlight in the past few months which has brought about a lot of change in 2013. “I can see my music taking on another level. It really means a lot to work a talented manager like John Askew. It’s to correct all the stuff that went wrong in the past years.”
Patterson, who has been doing a lot of studio work, says if he is not travelling he is constantly working in the studio and cooking up new beats. He says he can see a lot of changes in the music scene and one has to constantly be bringing fresh beats at all times. He acknowledges that it is good that music industry is changing every time.
Patterson says more and more countries around the world are bringing trance music to the forefront and he is looking forward to playing and exploring new places that he has not played at. Patterson says he gets inspiration from different facets of life on daily basis.
He believes there is still a lot of talent to be nourished in SA and he is planning grooming those and bringing them to the forefront of music. He says he is working with a local blogger to get the names of start-up musicians that he could groom and work with.
Patterson was accompanied by two local DJs, Protoculture and Dean Fuel who played two sets of one hour each. Producer and DJ Protoculture was ranked number one DJ in South Africa by international by an international magazine and he has also received received a SAMA nomination for his work with Goldfish. He says he is happy to see more and more of SA music being taken overseas. Protoculture also known as Nate Raubenheimer is constantly playing on international grounds he played in places like London, New York, Sao Paulo and Tokyo only to name a few.Dean Fuel also played on international stages. He has been a DJ since his varsity days at UCT 11years ago. He says he looks forward to his music growing beyond the SA borders. He is glad trance music is falling into more and more countries around the world.
