‘A great number of overseas art lovers as well as upcountry visitors have attended the Summer Show this  year,’ comments Korber, ‘and the interest in William Kentridge’s works, in particular - from a variety of periods - has been marked. The fact that Kentridge was named amongst the greatest living artists in the world today by Vanity Fair in November 2013, clearly piqued interest in the investment potential of Kentridge’s works.’

‘Other notable names on the current show that have become  sought after, are Sam Nhlengethwa, Willie Bester, Norman Catherine, Simon Stone, Robert Slingsby, Joachim Schönfeldt, Claudette Schreuders, Deborah Bell and Diane Victor.’

‘There has also been great interest in the paintings of Richard Smith, John Kramer, Georgia Lane, Paul Blomkamp and the new media works of Pamela Stretton, as well as the large Shangaan beadwork pieces by Jane Makhubele - particularly her Mandela shirts, which replicate, in beads on cloth, the designs worn by Madiba on significant milestone occasions in his life - post 1994.’

‘Works by some of our leading ceramists, such as Louise Gelderblom, Laura du Toit and Hennie Meyer and sculptures by Anthony Lane and Jaco Sieberhagen have been enormously appreciated.’

‘International viewers, who have visited the Summer Show, have come mainly from the UK and the USA, as well as from Australia, FranceGermanySweden, Hong Kong and the Ukraine.  It is gratifying that all these visitors have come to know and appreciate contemporary South African art, and have taken quality artworks back home with them, consequently exposing our artists to a global audience.’
