The eclecto DJ’s new mixtape is an adventurous listen, giving us a snapshot of the reach of Africa as an influence on various music scenes globally.
The mixtape features stand out tracks from LimPOP featured artists: The Brother Moves On, Motel Mari, Felix Laband and of course the event namesake, John Wizards‘ ‘Limpop‘.
Check out the hourlong mix for afro-underground selections like Andrew Bird and Konono No.1‘s beautiful collaboration; The Brother Moves On remixing Motél Mari; the critically acclaimed Shangaan Electro; a leftfield disco & balearic remix of Felix Laband by Scandinavian dance music superstar, Norway’s king-of-the-summer-jams Todd Terje; Brooklyn based “bubu“ pop by Janka Nabay & The Bubu Gang, Cape Town’s Future African indie-darlings John Wizards; a rework on the esteemed Sofrito label renowned for supplying underground tastemakers with secret weapons of sought after world music club beats; Four Tet remixing desert blues legends Tinariwen; the Nairobi-London sound clash of Giles Peterson endorsed Owiny Sigoma Band and New York’s indie legends The Dirty Projectors with their massive crossover mix of folk, rock and West African music.
